BlueDot is growing and as a result, we are looking for a Director of Data Systems to join our Technology team.

 

Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer, you will lead a team of enthusiastic and talented data engineers, data scientists and data infrastructure professionals. You will further expand this team and help bring new talent to the organization.

 

The role requires a strong technical leadership in data governance, modern data ingestion techniques, scale and automation of our data pipelines and cloud native data infrastructures. You will drive technical innovation by utilizing artificial intelligence, natural language processing and related technologies. 

 

You will be responsible for overall design and implementation of advanced data products with a focus on data quality, integrity and security. You will closely collaborate with a multidisciplinary BlueDot teams and co-own business outcomes.

BlueDot protects people around the world from infectious diseases using human and artificial intelligence. Our software-as-a-service solution combines medical and public health expertise with advanced data analytics to track, contextualize, and mitigate infectious disease risks. Our global early warning system combines more than 100 datasets with proprietary algorithms to deliver critical insights on the spread of infectious diseases. In December 2019, we flagged an undiagnosed respiratory syndrome in Wuhan, China. In January 2020, we published the world's first scientific paper on COVID-19, accurately predicting its global spread.

What you will do in more detail:

 

In this technical leadership role, you will be a key contributor to a rapid expansion of our highly successful centralized infectious diseases surveillance system. You will also:

 

  • Lead and inspire our high performing data systems team
  • Drive the evolution and enhancement of our pioneering data products
  • Closely collaborate with software development, epidemiology and clinical teams
  • Identify imaginative ways to utilize new and existing data sources
  • Own cloud native data system pipelines and architectures
  • Oversee the evolution and performance of BlueDot AI/ML/NLP platform stack  
  • Manage data quality, integrity and security processes
  • Define strategies for building and maintaining partnerships with data suppliers
  • Mentor and manage professional development programs for data system team

 

What you bring to BlueDot:

 

  • Proven experience leading data engineering and data science teams (10+ years industry experience with 5+ years in leadership positions)
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to grasp complexities and relationship between advanced data systems
  • Exceptional collaborative skills to effectively work with team members, peers, and leadership
  • Extensive experience working with Big Data, relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes and cloud storage solutions
  • Expert knowledge of common ETL patterns, architectures and processes
  • Deep understanding and experience with data governance concepts
  • Strong knowledge of AI/ML, Natural Language Processing and related technologies
  • Solid experience working with data science cloud solutions and cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge or experience working with geospatial data and techniques
  • Good understanding of REST API architecture, patterns and techniques
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
